Het is een week vakantie geweest en meestal moet ik dan iets nieuws vinden om me te amuseren. Dat heb ik deze keer dus ook gevonden, ik ben dus blijkbaar trouwer aan mezelf dan ik dacht. Mijn nieuwe obsessie: “Avatar: The last airbender.”

Chapter 1: Forest Awakening.
Kiku opened her eyes and rubbed the dirt out of it…or at least, she was trying to. It wasn’t always that easy to live in woods where there’s a lot of mud, insects and other creatures. She decided to stop now, before she would make it even worse. With a big sigh she stood up and looked around. The fire was already out, definitely the work of Lian. You could notice the water trails all over the “camp”. A smile appeared on Kiku’s face and she decided to go and look for her friends. They had to leave fast, if they wanted to catch the Avatar. If the rumors were right, he was last seen in Omashu. “Lian?” Kiku yelled and puts her hands in her side. “Tao?” She tried again, but no answer. Lian and Tao were her 2 companions. 2 girls of almost the same age, but Kiku was the oldest. In the years that had pasted, Kiku had forgotten how old she actually was. Not that old if you would take a better look. No, Kiku was around the age of 16-17, a good age. She was quit tall, had sparkling gold eyes and long, straight, blond hair. Her real pride. With a sigh Kiku went to work. She rolled up her sleeping bag and later those of her friends. “They probably went looking for water and food. Nothing to worry about.” She comforted herself, but for real, Kiku wasn’t that reassured. The fire nation was everywhere. And Kiku, Lian and Tao had to follow the Avatar, just like the fire nation. The chance that they would pass each other was bigger than get eaten by a shark. A really big, hungry shark.
When Kiku was ready with cleaning up the camp, she heard a weird noise in the bushes. She stood immediately as stiff as a rod and searched with her eyes for her weapon. “Steady, Kiku.” She whispered, but the thing was faster then her. Before realizing, the “thing” attacked her in the back and Kiku fell with a girly-scream on the hard, dirty ground. A childlike laugh filled the wood and Kiku turned on her back. A big, smiling face looked upon her. “Gotcha!” The thing said and got off Kiku. “Yeah, you did.” Kiku smiled, and the thing helped her up. Lian was the fast, sneaky one. Funny, girly, a dreamer, but real lithe. A really good friend as well. After she helped Kiku up, Kiku started the interrogation. “Where have you been? Where’s Tao, by the way. Don’t you know how important it is that we stick together? What if the Fire Nation…” Kiku didn’t get the chance to finish her sentence. “Relax, Kieks. We’re grown up woman, we can take care of our self. Besides, you’ll have to convince me with more than a “What if”.” Lian turned her back by saying: “But it’s kinda cute that you are that worried.” Kiku sighted, more of relief, and smiled. “Fine, but you still have some explaining to do. You can start by telling me were Tao is.” “Wauw, I’m flattered. Am I that important?” Said the voice of Tao and a red-haired face appeared. “I had no idea…” A silence fell, but didn’t last for long. “Group hug!!!” Lian yelled. An “Oh no!” followed by the 2 other girls, but with a big smile they hugged each other. “No, let’s go finish our task. I don’t feel like sleeping in woods anymore.” With those, wise, words the trio jumped on their ostrichhorses, they were in the earth kingdom, and left the woods…

Chapter 2: Meeting the Avatar. They didn’t really know what to expect. They were following the Avatar for more then 5 months now, but they didn’t really know how to introduce themselves. The mission itself was more important than how they performed it. 5 months ago they were so happy that the Avatar was alive, now they are annoyed by the fact they just can’t find him. “Okay, let’s just think. The last thing we heard was that he was last seen in Omashu, right?” Kiku and Lian nodded. “And we just passed Omashu.” Kiku and Lian nodded again. “But Omashu is in the hands of the Fire Nation, couldn’t it be that…” Tao didn’t get the chance to finish her sentence. “No!” Kiku said, more like yelling, it was a little bit too loud. “The Avatar isn’t that easy to catch. We can’t even keep up!” “ That’s because they’re flying, we are just moving on the ground…with lazy ass birds.” Kiku shook her head and smiled. She looked in the fire and moaned. “Let’s just call it a day. We’re all tired. We have been riding all day. Let’s just be happy we didn’t pass the Fire nation. Because when the day comes that we do, we will be tested. Then we will know if we’re worth it to protect the Avatar.” Kiku stopped talking and crawled in her sleeping bag. With a big moan she closed her eyes. “How do you think the Avatar would look like? Would he be cute?” A snarl came out of Kiku’s sleeping bag. “Bold probably…” The 3 girls started laughing and went to bed. “Does it even matter? He has got 2 friends and what I heard was that the Avatar liked the girl. d**n, what was her name again? Ka-Tie-Roe-something.” “ Katara, fool.” “ Right, Katara! So, you wouldn’t make a chance, Lian. He already got his water bending girl.” “ Great, let’s just stop the gossip, shall we?” With those last words the girls fell a sleep. * The 3 girls were lucky, very lucky. Aang and his friends had to stop flying because Appa was getting too tired. That gave them the chance to meet the Avatar. “Are you alright, boy?” Aang asked and petted Appa. Appa growled of happiness. Katara rolled her sleeping bag open and looked upon Appa and Aang, Sokka was getting wood for a fire. “I sure hope we’re safe here. The Fire Nation is on our back, if we stay here for too long, we will get caught!” “Don’t worry, Katara. It’s just for one night. What could possibly go wrong?” Said Aang, and rolled of the giant bison. Aang smiled at Katara and when he turned around, he blushed. Sokka was back with wood for the fire. “It isn’t much, but we can’t make a big fire either. We have to be very careful.” Sokka sighted and sat down on the ground. “So what’s for dinner? I’m starving!” “Well…we got some berries.” “ What? Berries! I can’t live from berries! I need real food, like meat.” Aang’s face changed from a smile to a sad mouth. “Sokka!” Katara yelled angry and hugged Aang. “He doesn’t mean it like that. He always gets cranky if he doesn’t get meat for a few days. Right, Sokka?” Sokka growled and mumbled something. “We don’t have got much money either. We really need to get some help.” Katara sighted and sat down on the floor. “Let’s just go to bed. We’re all tired.” Sokka and Aang followed Katara and got into their sleeping bags. * “I think I heard something!” Lian whispered. No answer. “Tao, Kiku? Wake up, you guys! This isn’t funny.” Lian got out of her sleeping bag and ran towards to Tao. “Leave me alone!” She mumbled and turned around. “Kiku! Wake up. There are people here!” “ What’s so weird about that? We’re people as well, there’s nothing weird about people.” And also Kiku turned around. Lian was getting annoyed, and scared. “Help, Fire nation!” She screamed. “Where?” Tao and Kiku said and jumped out of their sleeping bags, armed and all. “Finally, you guys are awake!” “ That’s not funny, Lian. We could get killed for this.” Said Kiku, and wiped some dirt of her shirt. “Well, it’s clearly the only way to wake you guys up. I heard some voices. There are people.” Kiku and Tao stared at each other. “What kind of people? Fire Nation?” “ I don’t know! And I wasn’t planning to check it out all by myself. Why do you think there are 3 of us? We have to help each other, dah!” “ Fine, just relax! Let’s go check it out. We all take a side. Where did it come from?” Lian pointed at the bushes behind them. Toa nodded and took the left side. Kiku took the right side, and Lian, because she was the scariest, took the middle. They were armed with swords, crossbows and fighting sticks. Together, they could take the enemy out, easily. “Let’s just hope it isn’t the Fire Nation.”* “Sokka? There’s something in the bushes!” Katara whispered, by pushing her brother. Without food, Sokka gets cranky, but he also gets really sleepy. “Sokka, can you hear me? Please wake up!” Katara didn’t want to wake up Aang. He was still exhausted from the last fight in Omashu, and the riding of Appa. “Fine, I’ll go see what I can do.” With a growling stomach, Sokka got up and took his boomerang. Silent like a mouse, but sleepy as a bear, he disappeared in the bushes leaving Katara and Aang alone. * “I can hear voices. There al really people out there!” “ What do you think I’m telling you guys all the time?” “ Ssst! Now is not the time to fight. We will need that if it is the Fire Nation.” The 3 girls moved on in silence, but a scream filled the woods. “Lian, are you okay?” Another scream. “Auch. What is that?” “ What is what?” A boomerang missed Kiku with a few inches. “That!” Tao screamed and ducked, before she was hit again. “That’s not a Fire Nation weapon.” “ Let’s go. I want to see the fool who’s is throwing with toys at us!” Yelled Tao angry and dragged her 2 friends along. By coincidence, Lian bumped into Sokka. “Ow…hello!” Was the first thing she could say and smiled. Sokka raised his boomerang and aimed at Lian. “No!” She yelled and ducked right on time. Tao interfered just in time. She grabbed Sokka’s arm en throw the weapon to Kiku. Lian rubbed over her head and crossed her arms in front of her chest. “What’s your problem, little boy?” “Little?” “ Do you think it’s funny to hit people with toys?” “ What are you doing here? Who are you?” Sokka asked. “We were planning to ask the same question at you!” And Tao pointed at Sokka. “Well, you first! I asked it first.” “ I don’t think so. We’re with 3. And you’re just all by yourself, all alone. Who do you think that has got the upper hand, hmmm?” Tao dared. Kiku interfered before it would get out of control. “Tao, let him go.” She ordered. She looked from Tao to Sokka. “Fine, I’m Kiku, and these are Tao and Lian. We’re here to find the Avatar.” “ You’re Fire Nation.” “ Do we look like that?” Tao said sarcastically. “ Yeah?!” Lian followed. “If we would be, we wouldn’t be living in the woods for years. We would live on a boat ore something. With great luxury.” “ Yeah!” Lian said again. Kiku, Tao and Sokka looked at Lian. “Too much?” Kiku answered by sighting. “No, we’re not of the Fire Nation. We can’t tell you why we are looking for the Avatar. It’s…a secret.” “ Ow, yeah? Well I’m a friend of Aang, the Avatar, and I insist, no order, that you tell me what is going on.” “ You are a friend of the Avatar?” “ The Avatar has got stupid friends…” “ Lian!” “ Well, it is. I mean look at him!” A silence fell. Sokka looked at the girls with a bored face and the girls started laughing. “I can’t deny that!” “ Hey, are you here to talk bad about the Avatar’s friends, or what?” “ Fine, sorry. It’s just…never mind.” Kiku restored herself and went back to serious. “We need to see the Avatar. We have to tell him something important.” “ And how do I know you aren’t lying? Even if you aren’t of the Fire Nation, you still could be enemies. The Avatar has got a lot of enemies.” Tao took over the job. “If we were enemies, we could have killed you and your friends a long time ago. Did we do that? No! We are here for a task, let’s just get over it. Besides, it’s a decision that the Avatar alone has to make.” “ Fine, I will take you to Aang. But if you are enemies, you won’t survive.” The girls rolled with their eyes. “Yeah, because you are sooo strong.”

Chapter 2: Talking to Aang (the girl’s task).Katara had waken up Aang, because it took Sokka so long to find out what the danger was. They now were sitting against each other with dreamy, little eyes. “What precisely, did you hear?” Aang asked. With a big sigh Katara answered: “I’m not really sure. It may also just have been the wind. But I could swear there was something in those bushes.” Katara had just finished her sentence when Sokka appeared, but he was not alone! “What’s going on!?” Aang yelled and stood up. Katara followed, but not that fast. Aang seemed angry and ready to fight. Katara looked surprised, but was also ready to fight if it was necessary. “It’s…okay.” Sokka said and looked at the three visitors. “We want to help.” Kiku finished his sentence. “We’re…friends.” “Friends we don’t know!” Katara yelled and looked angry at her brother. It’s almost like her eyes said: Why are you such a fool? Why did you bring these strangers to Aang? Don’t you know how dangerous it is? What if they are of the Fire Nation? “We met in the woods. These are Kiku, Lian and Tao. Aang, they want to speak to you, it’s important.” (S)“Well they have to do it with us around.” (K)“No, you don’t understand. It’s very important that we talk to the Avatar…private. We have something important to share, and it’s his decision and his decision alone.” (Ki)“How do we know that you aren’t of the Fire Nation?”(K) “I checked them out. They can’t bend, they have weapons.” ‘S)“Fine, but you have to leave your weapons here. And don’t go too far. And you must know: if something goes wrong or we hear a suspicious sound, we will be ready.” (K) Katara crossed her arms in front of her chest. Kiku, Lian and Tao nodded. They looked at the Avatar and waited till he would answer. “Euh…I guess it’s okay.” (A) Aang smiled at the three girls and disappeared in the bushes. The girls dropped there weapons and followed Aang. “I think they don’t have to worry that much. We are the ones who are screwed if the avatar attacks.” Lian said and finished the line. * Aang, Kiku, Lian and Tao set down at the water. It was a calm, mystique place, but really beautiful. There was a little waterfall and the place was surrounded by green. “It’s wonderful out here!” Lian said and stood back up. “I know. Here’s were I waterbend with Katara. She’s a really good teacher.” (A)“You must be very happy that you got lessons from her!” (L)“Why?” Aang said and looked confused. Tao stumped Lian and said: “No reason. She’s a little bit crazy. Yeah, that’s what she is. A little, crazy girl. Who can’t keep her mouth shut!” Tao treated. Then she pulled Lian back on the ground. Kiku slapped her forehead and Aang looked amused. “You three are funny. But what have you to do with me?” “Dah! You’re the Avatar!” (L)“I don’t get it.” (A)“According to the legends, the Avatar has got three helpers.” (Ki)“Three? Who’s the third?” (A)Now the girls were confused. “I mean, I have got Sokka and Katara. Who would be the third? Ow, is it Appa? Because he has been a really good help.” (A)“You mean the flying bison? No! We mean us, silly!” Lian finished Kiku’s story. Now Aang was again confused, but also surprised. “You?!” (A) “Ach, this is taking forever!” (T)Tao got annoyed. “Avatar…” (Ki)“Aang.” (A) “Aang…how much do you know about the stories and everything that goes with the Avatar?” (Ki) “Not much I guess. I fled when I heard the news. I was…scared.” (A)Aang had a sad face. The girls knew everything about the Avatar and his past life, so they knew what the reason for his sadness was. Kiku decided to continue. “The legend tells us that when the Avatar is chosen he gets helpers to help him with his bending. Normally there are Fire, Water, Earth and Air benders. But I think you have to do it with just us. With us three.” (Ki) “With people who can’t bend? That’s stupid! I’m on my way to find an earthbender, and I already have a waterbender, who is a master! Now I only have to find a Firebender, which is quit difficult these days, and I’m done!” (A)“It’s not that easy, Aang. You need trained people. Not people who are students and get the role of master because the world is in trouble. You will never find a Firebender, and earthbenders these days aren’t easy to find, either. Omashu was one of the last free Earth kingdoms. Now that that is in the hands of the Fire Nation only Ba Sing Se stays left.” (Ki) “Katara is not just a student. I learned a lot of her, and she’s great!” Aang stood up and said: “I don’t think we can speak farter.” “Aang, wait! If you don’t want to listen to us… just see.” (Ki) Kiku nodded at Lian and also she stood up. Aang didn’t turn around and was planning to leave. He almost disappeared in the bushes when a giant water octopus doomed up before his eyes. “What the…!?” He turned around, scared, and saw Lian water bending. She was very focused and the octopus started to walk. “What was that noise? We heard something suspicious.” (K) Katara and Sokka, armed with his boomerang, appeared. Lian lost her concentration and the octopus changed in a giant pile of water. “Aaah. I just wanted to let him dance.” (L)“How…did you do that?” Aang asked. “You can let him walk? And even dance? On the ground?” Aang was amused. A smile appeared on his face. “What can I say? I’m a great waterbender.” (L) “So you can waterbend? And the others?” Aang turned against Tao and Kiku. “Can you bend to? Can one of you airbend?” (A) “Remember when I said “three”?” Kiku answered. “Normally we are with four, but since the Fire Nation started the war, the fourth helper died also. Just like all your friends.” (Ki) Aang didn’t answer, but thought. “So you can also bend? Which one can Firebend?” (A) Kiku raised here hand. “That would be me. Tao is the great, fantastic, amazing earthbender!” (Ki) She smiled and looked at Sokka and Katara. “So far for our private talk.” She mumbled. * “So you are here to help Aang with is bending.” (K) “Yep, that’s our job. It’s easier for you. That way you don’t have to search to whole planet for an earthbender. And you won’t have to fear to get killed by the Fire nation. Because now, you have your private firebender. Success guarantied!” (T) Kiku smiled at Tao. “But, it’s the Avatar’s, I mean, Aang’s decision. If he doesn’t want it, then we just leave and go on with our lives. Our stupid, annoying lives.” (Ki) “I don’t know. It’s handy. We can never find a firebender. But can’t we just come look for you guys when we need you?” (S)“Hey! We take are job serious! It’s everything or nothing. We join the club or we leave and you will never hear of us again.” (T)“I think I made a decision.” Aang said. “I really appreciate your help and the legend with your task, but I already have got 2 really good helpers. They may not know how to fire- or earthbend, but I will learn it somehow.” “We are not just teachers, Aang. Our task is also to protect you. From any kind of danger.” (T) “I know, but I think it’s better this way.” (A)“But..”(L) “Tao, let him be. He’s the Avatar. He knows what is best. He has to save the world, not we. We are just guiders.” (Ki) Kiku stood up. “Then we won’t bother you anymore. We respect your decision.” (Ki) Kiku bowed and Tao and Lian followed. “You can always count on us, Aang!”(L) The three girls turned their back at the Avatar and his friends. “Wait, don’t you want to stay and…eat something?”(K) “Yeah? What do you want to feed them? Berries?” (S)Katara stumped her brother again. “No thanks. We only had to give the message and then wait for a decision. The cards are played. The future is now decided. Good luck, young Avatar.” (Ki)

Chapter 3: Reflections from the past. Kiku’s secret. There are few people who know Kiku’s past. Except Lian and Tao…actually nobody. The people who did know Kiku, when she was younger, had forgotten her. She was nothing more than a shadow, a stranger. If they would pass her, they wouldn’t recognize her. “What did you think of the Avatar?” Lian asked and nibbled on an old piece of bread. “How do you mean?” Tao answered. “Would he be capable enough?” (L) Tao raised her shoulder. “I dunno.” She mumbled and swallowed her last piece of food. “Kiku…? Kieks, are you alright?” (L)“It has been 4 years ago.” (Ki)The girls stopped eating and looked at her, in silence. Kiku sighted and said: “Never mind, it doesn’t matter. What’s past is past, it’s over.” (Ki)Kiku stood up, smiled and said: “Sorry, You better get used to this. You will hear this every year.” (Ki) And Kiku left the girls. * Kiku set down near the water and closed her eyes. She focused at the wind while it was playing with her hair. “Why…?” She thought and flashes of memories appeared in front of her eyes. It was like she could see her past in the water, her long forgotten past. It was like she was there again and went through it once again. “You are going down, Azula!” Kiku yelled and a grin appeared on her red face. Mai and Ty Lee were standing on a safe distant. The playing had gotten out of control. They had formed 2 groups: Azula and Ty Lee, Kiku and Mai. But since Ty Lee and Mai were the weaker ones, Azula decided to make the training more interesting. And since Azula was the princess of the Fire nation, nobody dared to disagree. “You talk too much! Show me what you got!” Azula answered. Kiku was 2 years older and if she wanted, much stronger then the princess. They both could Firebend and had had an excellent training at the Fire Academy. Azula smiled back and Kiku started the attack. She ran towards to Azula, but Azula was born with a perfect defense. She could easily keep off the attack and start her own. Azula kicked Kiku against the knee and Kiku fell down, right with her face in the water. Ty Lee and Mai started laughing, Azula followed. Kiku had never chosen for these friends. She was older than them, she actually should “play” with Prince Zuko. But he was too grumpy and was always hanging around with his mom. Not to forget that he was a boy. Kiku grumped and stood back up. “That’s it!” She yelled and formed a fist. A second later the fist was surrounded by fire, Azula smiled even wider and followed Kiku’s example. “Now, it’s getting interesting.”(Az) She mumbled and the both girls fired their fireballs at each other. They came closer and closer, but before Kiku knew she fell on the ground. “Now let’s see who’s the stronger one.” She heard Azula say. Kiku looked scared, saw something pink ran away in the distant and Azula who was getting closer. Azula grabbed her arm and said: “I think it’s me.” The next thing Kiku knew was pain, burning flesh and her scream.
“She will be alright. Let the wound heel for a few days and she will feel much better.”(Nurse) “Thank you.” (Iroh) Kiku opened her eyes and saw her father smiling. “That was one fight you had.”(Iroh) Kiku tried to smile, her father was a real joke, but couldn’t do it. “Dad…?”(Ki) “Hmmm?” (Iroh)“Is it wrong to think that this was not an accident?” (Ki)Her father stopped smiling and said: “Don’t you ever say that again, Kiku! You know who you are, you know what your place is. Didn’t I try to explain to you to always agree with the King, Princess and Prince?”(Iroh) “I know, father. But it’s just…”(Ki) Her father sighted. “Rest, my darling. And even if you are right you can never tell this to someone. You know what the consequences are.”(Iroh) “Yes, father.”(Ki) Kiku closed her eyes again and tried to get some sleep.
“Haaai! Can we come in?”(Az) It was Azula and her friends. Kiku nodded and tried to smile. “How are you feeling?” Ty Lee asked and set down at the bed. “Better.”(Ki) “I’m sorry what happened, Kiku. It was really not my intention. You understand that, right?” (Az)Azula smiled at her and Kiku nodded again. “Of course I know, Azula. Friends don’t hurt each other on purpose.”(Ki) She said and looked the other way. “When may you get out of bed?”(Ty Lee) “In a few days.”(Ki) “That’s not true. You just hurt your arm! You don’t have to rest al the time. Come on, let’s have some fun!”(Ty Lee) Before Kiku realized, she got pulled out of her bed by Ty Lee. Mai left the room and Ty Lee followed. Azula and Kiku were left behind. The two girls looked at each other. “Screw the rules!” Kiku thought and said: “I know you cheated, Azula.” “Oh my, that’s a big accusation. I wouldn’t speak too loud, Kiku. What if my father hears you?”(Az) “I don’t care. I can’t stand the lying. Everybody should know what for a horrible person you are.” (Ki)Azula’s smile changed in an angry look. “Don’t you ever say that again. You know the rules, Kiku. One more insult and you are dead!” (Az)Azula turned her back and walked out of the room. “Are you coming?” She asked gentle and Kiku sighted. She had no choice. She was mutilated for the rest of her life and nobody would know the truth.
“You know what you accusing my daughter of?”(Ozai) “Yes,Fire Lord Ozai.” (Ki)“Then you also know the consequences.”(Ozai) “But, Lord.”(Ki) “No! I won’t stand that you tell that my daughter is a cheater. You may be happy that I let you live. With your background I would have to kill you!”(Ozai) “Please…” (Ki)“Silence! From this day, you are banned! You may never show your face in the Fire Nation again. If you do, everyone who sees you gets the permission to kill you. No go before I change my mind!”(Ozai) Kiku knew there was no time to argue. Al those years she lived in silence were gone, and because of one little mistake she lost everything. When she ran as fast as possible to the door she could see Azula smiling at her. Kiku opened her eyes and saw she had fallen a sleep on the ground. She moaned and mumbled: “Great.” Kiku was banned of the Fire Nation, just like all the other “Allied ones”. Because that is what Tao, Lian and she were. They called themselves “The Allied ones”. After she was banned, she still had been living for 2 months in the Fire Nation, with the help of her father. In those 2 months Kiku had learned everything about surviving. Her origin was her rescue, but also her doom. Iroh was the older brother of Fire Lord Ozai and the real heir of the throne, Kiku was a bastard. The wife of Iroh was not her real mother and because it was unacceptable that the brother of the king had a bastard, Kiku actually should have died. But the same fact that Iroh was the brother of the king saved her. You can’t kill the niece of a king. They had made a deal. One mistake and Kiku had to leave the Fire nation for ever. If she kept quiet, she could never be killed. The fact that she called Azula a cheater could have destroyed her. Kiku sighted and stood up. She decided to go back to the girls. They already knew what was going on, but Kiku never told them that she was the daughter of the actual heir of the throne. That was a secret she would keep to herself forever. But what she didn’t know was that she would cross her father sooner then planned.

Chapter 3: Lian’s banning.
Lian heard something come closer. Because she didn’t want to react so hysterically as before she opened one eye and looked where the sound came from. It was Kiku, she had returned. Lian sighted relieved and closed her eyes again. Kiku wasn’t the only one with a dark past. They all had made choices in the past and that was what made them to who they were now. It was also a part of the prediction. “Four girls who are left behind by their own Nation will find each other and make part of a very difficult task.” Lian turned around and fell a sleep.
“Lian, would you come here for a second?” “Of course mom!” Lian skipped over the snow, leaving her footprints on the ground. “What seems to be the problem?” She asked happy and smiled at her mother. She sighted, shook the head and watched at the ground. “Something’s wrong!” Lian thought, but hided her suspicion. “Lian...” Her father appeared out of nowhere. “Come and have a seat.” He ordered. Lian was surprised. This had to be serious. If her father said she had to take a seat… “What’s going on?” She asked, more like yelling. Tears appeared in her eyes and Lian sniffed in the hope they would be gone. “You are a big girl…and…it’s a tradition.” “What’s a tradition?” Lian was lost, she couldn’t follow anymore. She felled all kinds of emotions and thoughts, but couldn’t place them. Her father sighted and her mother took over. “There was someone, earlier this day. He…asked for your hand.” “What!?” Lian yelled. She couldn’t believe her ears. “You must be joking.” Lian continued and smiled nervous. “Mom! I’m 13, you must be kidding.” Lian kept quiet and said: “Well, this is not funny.” She crossed her arms in front of her chest. “We know. But it is the truth.” “Dad! The truth clearly sucks…” “Watch your language, young lady!” “Exactly. YOUNG lady. I’m 13! You can’t be serious about this.” “Well you are not gonna marry this instance. We wait a couple of years. Till you’re old enough.” “But I don’t want to marry. And especially not with a man I don’t know!” “You will know him.” “You don’t understand! I want a man I love, and that I choose all by myself. Myself, do you hear me?” Lian got angry and stormed away. “Besides! I’m too young to think about these…STUPID things!” With a grump she stampfeated out of the village.
“This just absolutely sucks!” Lian thought while she was throwing snowballs in the water. “Stupid Northern Water Tribe…” Lian looked at her reflection in the water. “Can’t waterbend…excuse me, MAY not waterbend, can’t marry with who I want to, I can’t do anything!” She stood up and splashed the water out of her way. “Stupid parents…stupid tradition and stupid stupid rules!” Lian yelled. With a sight she closed her eyes. She had no choice, if she wanted to deserve the respect of her tribe she had to follow the rules. With hanging shoulders she returned to the village.
Lian woke up with a beating heart. “Wow…that was NOT normal.” She shook her head and threw the sleeping bag of her. “Need…water…” She thought and a smile appeared on her face. She stood up, blew a blue lock of hair out of her face and went looking for water. Lian wasn’t pride of her past, but it could be worse. Kiku was mutilated for life and Tao was always grumpy. With a smile Lian took a gulp of water. She was always the funny, happy one who kept the group together. But there was so much they didn’t know of each other. Lian was really good in knowing people, and she knew that even they were best friends, Tao and Kiku had lies and secrets for each other. But maybe it was better this way. Maybe the secrets would destroy their friendship if they knew the things of each other. No, the secrets had a reason for existing. Lian crawled back to her sleeping back while her dark black curls bounced up and down. “Let’s get some sleep. Tomorrow we have to ride those annoying things again. I disagree still hurts.” With a smile on her face she fell back a sleep.
“Chief Arnook, I do not agree! I protest against the stupid rules of this tribe.” The chief kept his silence, but Master Pakku didn’t. “You will speak with respect, Lady Lian.” “Stop calling me like that! I am who I am, and my parents have NOTHING to do with that.” “Your parents have everything to do with it.” “Silence!” The chief came, finally, in action. “Tell us, what you want to chare with us…Lian.” Lian sighted and looked with puppy-eyes at the chief. “I want…I wish it was possible to change the rules, Chief. My parents expect I marry with a man I don’t even know.” “That’s tradition, besides, you will get to know this man before you marry him.” “He sounds like my parents.” Lian thought and rolled her eyes. “I have got enough off these stupid rules! I hate them and I don’t want them en will not follow them anymore.” Lian made 2 fists and turned her back on the counsel. “If I want to waterbend, even if I am a girl, I do it from this day off! I got this gift, probably for a good reason, and I will use it.” “Lady Lian.” Master Pakku mumbled. “Let her go…” The chief said and Lian stormed outside.
“You have got two choices. You will follow the rules, again, from this day off and we forget the whole incident. If you choose not to…we have got no other choice then to ban you. What is your decision, Lady Lian?” Master Pakku had the word in the court. Lian sighted and looked with tears at her parents. “Do you want to bring shame to your family, Lady?” “No…I don’t.” Lian sighted again and looked at the floor. “But…if you don’t want to change the rules…” With an angry face and her hands as fists Lian continued: “Let it be like this than.” Master Pakku answered her stubbornness. “Fine, be like a rebel. But from this they of you turned your back to your Nation, Family and Friends, and everything else. You are BANNED!” A single tear fell on the ground. “Fine!” Lian yelled and ran away. She had lost everything, just because she wanted to change things and was different.
